Summary

Kaboyo Secondary School, located in Kabarole district, faced a significant challenge with the introduction of a new curriculum in 2020 that mandated the integration of ICT in all subjects. Since its inception in 1982, the school had never acquired computers, leaving students and teachers without the necessary tools to meet modern educational demands. The absence of technology in the learning environment hindered the school's ability to provide quality education, especially in ICT.

Kabarole NGOs and CBOs Association (KANCA) set out to mobilise the community and friends of Kaboyo Secondary School to equip the school computer laboratory with at least 20 computers (15 desktops and 5 laptops). As of November 2023, 7 desktops and 2 laptops had been procured and more pledges were still coming through.

Review by Wilde Ganzen Foundation

The first thing KANCA did when they decided to help Kaboyo Secondary School raise funds for setting up an ICT lab was to convene a stakeholder conference. This was a very strong move, because it made the community feel involved and responsible from the very beginning. And not only for setting up the ICT lab, but also for maintaining and improving the facilities. Another strong point is the involvement of the beneficiaries in raising the necessary funds. This has worked very well. One of the students even organised several fundraising drives and managed to raise 150,000 UGX. The initiative has clearly promoted a culture of collaboration and support within the community, extending beyond just the school. This will undoubtedly influence future communal projects.
