Resumen
The Act governing the NGOs of Zanzibar was outdated and no longer in line with Zanzibar's 2009 NGO policy. ANGOZA, being the national umbrella organisation serving the Zanzibar NGO community, assumed responsibility for organising a series of consultations about the new draft law that had already been prepared. The aim of this campaign was to seek the advice and opinion of NGOs, which are key stakeholders.

The Societies Act, No.6 of 1995 that governs the Non-Governmental Organisations in Zanzibar is outdated, and does not conform with the Zanzibar NGO Policy of 2009.
Solución del problema
To develop a new Zanzibar NGO Act which is updated and in conformity with the Zanzibar NGO policy of 2009. A draft Bill had already been developed, thus this campaign seeks the opinion of NGOs which are key stakeholders.

The meetings were held in three regions of Unguja, the main island of Zanzibar, from 9th to 14th November 2020. The meetings involved 150 participants from NGOs, local government authorities and media.

ANGOZA - Association of Non-Governmental Organisations of Zanzibar is an outstanding National Umbrella Organisation serving the Zanzibar NGO Community. ANGOZA was established and officially registered in 1993 under the land perpetual succession act No. 101 of 1953 and re-registered under the society Act. No. 6 of 1995. ANGOZA is a non-governmental, non-partisan, independent, voluntary and non-profit sharing organisation. As an umbrella body it is committed to promoting the well-being of its constituency by acting as a unifying organ and mandated representative in advocating for transformation for the common goal. ANGOZA focuses on policy engagement and advocacy by making appropriate changes towards creating a conducive environment for NGOs to operate.

There was a high level of support from stakeholders, these included: NGOs, media and the community at large.
There was active participation from invited NGOs and more opinions were collected to improve Zanzibar NGO Bill Act.
