10 years. 16 countries. 18 partners. Stories that changed the game.
For a decade, Change the Game Academy has been rewriting the rules of international development, shifting power back to local communities. To celebrate this mlestone, we're proud to release our new storybook: Voices of Change: From Local Roots to Global Reach.
This publication is more than a collection of stories; it's a testament to the power of local resource mobilisation. From public transport advocacy in Brazil to biodiversity protection in Peru, from digital learning in Ghana to women-led resilience in rural India, these stories prove that sustainable change starts locally, with courage, creativity, and community.
Each chapter highlights how local action addresses critical challenges like healthcare, education, and climate change.
“It offers a tangible look at how local contributions and involvement lead to measurable social change and increased community ownership. The organisations in this book discovered that their most powerful tool wasn’t funding, but the trust in their own capacity. The training didn’t hand them a solution; it handed them the tools, and they built the rest,” says Nienke Nuijens, manager at CtGA.
Over the past decade, CtGA has:
But numbers only tell part of the story. Behind every figure are teachers, parents, youth leaders, and grassroots organisations who refused to wait for change; they built it themselves. This book is dedicated to them.
“The storybook captures these journeys with both heart and evidence. Alongside powerful personal testimonies, it also highlights measurable outcomes: new schools and health centres, public policies influenced, funds raised, and communities mobilised. It is a testament to the ripple effect that occurs when local ownership takes root,” says Louise Pita, coordinator of the storybook project.
Available in four languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French), the Storybook is designed for both digital and print, making it a versatile companion for social development professionals, alumni, and supporters worldwide. Whether shared online, gifted to donors, or launched in local roundtables, it reinforces a simple but powerful message: sustainable change begins within communities.
As we celebrate 10 years, we look back with pride and forward with determination. Voices of Change is more than a reflection on CtGA’s journey; it’s an invitation to join the next chapter.
