Change the Game now in the Khmer language

Change the Game Academy is now available in Khmer, the official language of Cambodia. Over the past few years, we worked together closely with our local partners; Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC) and Advocacy and Policy Institute (API), to make our website more accessible to a wider public in Asia. “This is a great opportunity for Cambodian NGOs, CBOs and Youth groups; it helps them to be self-sustainable. Building a larger platform for these local groups will help them to gather and discuss for a modern approach in fundraising and mobilising support”, says Sopheap Chea, Senior Program Officer at Advocacy and Policy Institute (API).

The website offers extensive online courses in local fundraising and mobilising support for civil society organisations or anyone else that takes interest in these subjects and who wish to improve the capacity of their organisation. “For example, if a small or medium sized Cambodian NGO wants to improve children’s access to education in a certain province, but is encountering difficulties in finding support and funds for their projects, they can learn various useful techniques aimed at this by enrolling in our courses, and the website offers them the resources they need, including elements of theoretical frameworks, practical examples, exercises and much more”, says Chea.

For the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC), the website is one of the critical tools used in the blended classroom and online LFR training course. “Its contents are very useful and relevant with Cambodian CSO’s context. It also has a number of practical built-in creators for participants to improve their skills right away by practicing their knowledge from the training session with the use of those creators such as Organisational Financial Status Assessment, Organisational Leaflet, LFR (Local Fundraising) Plan etc. Translating the website into Khmer language would accelerate the interest as well as the understanding of the training among local Cambodian CSOs, especially the grassroots level whose capacities are not comparable with those at the national level”, explains Norak Neat Nong, Head of Communication & Resource Mobilization at CCC.

For Natasja Insing, Programme Manager at Wilde Ganzen Foundation, the Khmer version of the website is very important to make the courses more accessible for Cambodian’s changemakers “Reaching those local organisations, we hope they’ll be able to achieve more local support and therefore they’ll be able to carry out more projects to reduce poverty”, she concludes.

The website in Khmer was launched on January, 14th, in an interactive live broadcast on Facebook attended by a broad audience, composed of former and current participants in the Change the Game Academy, representatives of the implementing organisations, and international partners. During three and a half hours, the course participants shared experiences about the impact the program had on their organisations’ capacity to mobilise support and funds. Representatives of the Wilde Ganzen Foundation and a few program participants from other countries also gave short speeches via video call, and the prominent Cambodian singer and songwriter Sai talked about how he had managed to mobilise support and gather funds for his cause.
