Summary

ASMOTA needed funds for the community kitchen and vocational training for youth and adolescents and decided to organise fundraising actions during Special Days: Mother´s and Father´s Day and the local Manioc Festival.
Although the group was very insecure about achieving their goals at first, they soon found out that success was within reach if the events were properly marketed and the authorities were willing to co-operate.

Tips and lessons learned

The Association´s members learned that if there is collective action, it is possible to achieve the goals that were set.
If at all possible, try to make sure that the fundraising actions are part of the annual calendar of the city. This will make it easier to cover the costs and achieve better results. Also it will encourage people to invite others to the next edition of the events.
Finally: marketing the events is crucial and should be done through different media, e.g. posters, community radio.

Review by Wilde Ganzen Foundation

This is a good example of fundraising actions on the occasion of Special Days. The success of the first events encouraged the Association to repeat them on a yearly basis. This has already led to more support from local entrepreneurs and local government authorities.
We would have loved to hear a little more about their preparations and how they managed to involve the authorities.
