Living Positive Kenya on local fundraising

“Community has to be the center of local fundraising for it to be sustainable,” says Mary Wanderi, Founder and Director, Living Positive Kenya.

“Local fundraising has become a culture in our organization. We introduced income generating activities like chicken rearing and have involved the community in fundraising along with us,” shares Wanderi an alumna of Change the Game Academy local fundraising training through Kenya Community Development Foundation.

She shared that Living Positive’s beneficiaries have become their biggest fundraisers. They go to local churches and communities to raise money and volunteers for the organization as a sign of ownership and gratitude. They now have a 70% local to 30% international ratio of funds.

Living Positive Kenya is a Kenyan community based organization that seeks to improve physical and psychological health and develop the social economic status of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Recent programs: constructed washrooms in a local school, taught tailoring skills, passed on donated items to community, created hygiene kits during COVID, and provided food packages to those in need.
